My background: Born and raised on a
farm in Arkansas, went to school, taught school, coached a couple of years. Farmed
from 1968 until 1984. Owned a General Merchandise business in the country until all
the farmers left. Closed it. Left the farm went to work for the USDA in Kansas
City. I already had a part time job with them while I was farming.
The job in Kansas City called for travel all
over the Midwest and other places. I saw the back side of rural America. I saw
a lot of small towns, talked to many farmers. It was probably the most satisfying
job I ever had. I saw a lot and learned a lot. One thing I learned, there are good
folks where ever you go.
I saw towns with no young people
they had to leave to find work. Rural America, as we knew it is dying. That's
enough reason to do this project. I am now in Jackson, MS finishing my career.
Although I have been away, there are those I knew along the way that
will always have a special place in my heart, I miss them greatly.
The cotton boll on the home page was
painted by Ms Charlotte Carthell in west Texas in 1988. In my mind it is the best I
have ever seen. The more you look at it the more you see. I am lucky to have
it.

"Me by Me"
My rows were not always straight
I failed a lot of tests
but there is one thing
I can say for my self
I never thought I was better
than anybody else.
